IBK launches Vietnamese subsidiary to expand support for SMEs

Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) officially launched its Vietnam subsidiary in Hanoi, aiming to expand financial support for Korean companies operating in the country and serve as a bridge for financial cooperation between the two countries, the state-run lender said Wednesday. The launch ceremony, held in Hanoi on Tuesday, came after the lender completed the establishment process following final approval from the State Bank of Vietnam in April. The subsidiary began operations on Sept. 25. The subsidiary is Vietnam's 10th foreign-owned bank, according to IBK. IBK Vietnam Bank plans to build on the operating experience of IBK's branches in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the state-run lender's more than six decades of expertise in policy financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The bank will expand its network around major industrial complexes to better serve Korean businesses operating in Vietnam and provide financing to support productive investment and economic cooperation between the two countries. LG Electronics has built an alliance with Apple in the home artificial intelligence (AI) sector, unveiling a range of internet of things (IoT) devices that will be integrated into Apple's ecosystem. The two companies’ partnership is now extending into the home appliance sector, evolving from component supplies and service integration to jointly developing finished products. For LG Electronics, the collaboration provides access to Apple’s global ecosystem, while Apple can leverage LG’s expertise in home appliances to strengthen its presence in the smart home market. LG Electronics and Apple jointly held a new product showcase in Manhattan, New York, Tuesday (local time), unveiling seven IoT devices. LG Electronics North America CEO Kwack Do-yeong, LG Electronics Home Appliance Solution Platform Business Center Head Jung Ki-hyun and Apple Vice President of Hardware Engineering Matthew Costello attended the event. Parallel Loop nets US$6.6M to sell enterprises the one thing AI models lack: context

In early 2018, Yujun Chean and Prateek Jogani were selling car insurance with a cashback twist. Their Singapore startup, Vouch Insurtech, had just raised SGD1 million (then US$755,000) in seed funding as the parent of Thai insurtech FairDee. Eight years on, the pair are back with a much bigger cheque and a far more crowded […] The post Parallel Loop nets US$6.6M to sell enterprises the one thing AI models lack: context appeared first on e27.

Singapore wants Google’s AI to catch scammers before victims hit send

Singapore’s war on scams has mostly been fought far from the victim: in police operations centres, bank back offices and, more recently, in rulebooks telling platforms what they must block. Now the city-state wants part of that fight to happen inside the phone itself. Google on Wednesday announced two initiatives with the Singapore Government, unveiled […] The post Singapore wants Google’s AI to catch scammers before victims hit send appeared first on e27.

Read the sectors, not the headline: What Singapore’s growth upgrade tells SEA founders

When the Ministry of Trade and Industry raised Singapore’s 2026 growth forecast in August, most of the founders I talk to read it the way the headlines invited them to, as good news for everyone. The revision was large. MTI moved its forecast from 2.0 to 4.0 per cent up to 4.5 to 5.5 per […] The post Read the sectors, not the headline: What Singapore’s growth upgrade tells SEA founders appeared first on e27.

85 per cent of Singapore employers expect staff to be always on. Half offer no help

Picture a Singapore account manager answering a Slack message at 10.47 pm, ninety seconds after it lands. Her manager did not ask for a reply tonight. Nobody will remember tomorrow that she gave one. And if new survey data is to be believed, it will do almost nothing for her career. She would not be […] The post 85 per cent of Singapore employers expect staff to be always on. The US$84,245 resistance is hours away from being tested. Will buyers show up or fold?

Bitcoin rose 0.89 per cent to US$83,264.98 over the past 24 hours, a gain that looks modest when set beside the 1.12 per cent increase in the total crypto market cap. This relationship matters. The largest digital asset did not climb because of a regulatory breakthrough or a huge institutional purchase. It climbed because capital […] The post The US$84,245 resistance is hours away from being tested. Will buyers show up or fold? appeared first on e27.

While the West invests in longevity, Southeast Asia still pays cash for the basics

Longevity is having a moment. In the US, people pay up to US$2,499 for a full-body MRI and hundreds of dollars a month for peptide protocols, mostly out of pocket. In the Philippines, the picture is very different. Many families put off check-ups and screenings until symptoms become serious. When public hospital beds are full, […] The post While the West invests in longevity, Southeast Asia still pays cash for the basics appeared first on e27.

Manus came home, and Singapore couldn’t stop it

There is a particular kind of Southeast Asian optimism that treats Singapore like a geopolitical airlock. Walk in from Beijing or Shenzhen, shut the door behind you, register a Pte Ltd, and the pressure from home equalises. You are now a Singaporean company with “Chinese roots”, free to raise from Silicon Valley and sell to […] The post Manus came home, and Singapore couldn’t stop it appeared first on e27.

Can AI cut the US$170 billion cost of buying and selling homes?

In 2024, Americans spent about US$170 billion on real estate commissions and other costs involved in transferring ownership of homes. The Bureau of Economic Analysis estimate, cited by the Federal Reserve, is equal to roughly 0.6 per cent of US GDP. This is money spent not on the homes themselves, but largely on changing who […] The post Can AI cut the US$170 billion cost of buying and selling homes? appeared first on e27.
