Naver's metaverse affiliate stages walkout, 2nd collective action this year

The Korea Times - Sep 23, 2026

Unionized workers at Naver Z Corp., the metaverse affiliate of Korea's Naver Corp., staged a walkout on Wednesday, its second collective action this year against the company's decision to freeze wages. Some 70 percent of the union's members, or around 120 people, picketed in front of its parent company's headquarters in Seongnam, south of Seoul, the portal operator's affiliate-wide labor union said. "Across Naver and its affiliates, a rate freeze happened only once in 2009, following the global financial crisis. Even during that time, the company shifted the financial burden onto its employees by increasing the wages of its executives by 71 percent," the union argued during a live broadcast of the walkout. The latest collective action is the second of its kind from Naver Z, after it staged a partial, 4-hour strike early this month. It also marks the second industrial action from Korea's portal service industry after unionized members of Kakao Corp., a messenger app operator, staged multiple walkouts in June.

What MARINA’s system failure reveals about government readiness

MANILA, Philippines — In the digital age, it only takes one cyberattack to bring a government service to a halt. When the Maritime Industry Authority’s (MARINA) seafarer document system was hit, the disruption exposed a problem beyond the attack itself: an aging digital infrastructure that had been waiting years for an upgrade. The agency temporarily

Xi-Trump dinner puts US tech titans in spotlight – what does it mean for China ties?

If the American guests seated at the head table with President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump at Thursday’s White House state dinner were any indication, Washington now views its relationship with Beijing largely through the prism of technology. Analysts said the seating arrangement underscored how tech industry titans driving the global AI infrastructure boom were pushing to draw the two economic superpowers closer together. Sitting alongside Xi, Chinese first lady Peng Liyuan, Trump...

Same failure, better clothes: Matchmade.io on selling Indonesian finance tech in Singapore

There is a particular misery that visits finance departments in the last week of every month. The sales figure on the point-of-sale screen says one thing, the bank statement says another, and somebody has to explain the gap before the books close. Gilang Gibranthama, co-founder of Jakarta-based Matchmade.io, has built a business around that misery. Citi, HSBC back iPiD’s US$16M round to make instant payments safer across borders

Hitting “send” on a bank transfer used to come with a cushion of time. A payment might sit in a queue for hours, sometimes days, giving banks and senders a window to notice a mistyped account number or a suspicious beneficiary. Instant payments have all but erased that cushion. Money now lands in seconds, and […] The post Citi, HSBC back iPiD’s US$16M round to make instant payments safer across borders appeared first on e27.

Vision AI expands visibility across remote pipeline corridors

Pipeline operators already receive large volumes of asset data, but physical activity along remote rights-of-way remains difficult to observe continuously. Vision AI is beginning to turn existing infrastructure into an additional layer of operational intelligence. Midstream operators face a problem created by the infrastructure itself: pipelines can run for hundreds of kilometres through terrain that […] The post Vision AI expands visibility across remote pipeline corridors appeared first on e27.

GoodARCH launches AI foot mapping in Malaysia with US$230K healthtech investment

For many people, foot pain is ignored until it starts changing everyday behaviour. They walk less, avoid stairs, switch shoes, or live with knee and back discomfort that seems unrelated. GoodARCH is betting that a five-minute scan can narrow the gap between early signs and medical attention. The Asian arch support brand, operated by Taiwan-based […] The post GoodARCH launches AI foot mapping in Malaysia with US$230K healthtech investment appeared first on e27.

AI made the first draft easier. It didn’t make client decisions easier

A few years ago, the early stages of a video project often began almost from zero. We would talk through the client’s direction, work out a script, develop the visual approach and gradually turn a loose idea into something the client could react to. That part has changed. Today, a client can give me a […] The post AI made the first draft easier. It didn’t make client decisions easier appeared first on e27.
