Zefir Surpasses $530 Million in WhatsApp Revenue for Shopify Brands, Releases Benchmark Data on WhatsApp Automation Performance

Sep 8, 2026

Meta Business Partner Zefir publishes performance data across 317 e-commerce brands, including open rates, conversion rates, ROI, and revenue contribution across WhatsApp automation flows.

United States, September 8, 2026 -- Zefir, a Meta Business Partner and Shopify Partner, today announced that its WhatsApp revenue infrastructure has generated more than $530 million in attributed revenue.

Alongside the milestone, the company released benchmark data drawn from 317 brands, covering open rates, conversion rates, and return on investment for each automation flow.

The data shows that when WhatsApp is deployed as a full customer lifecycle channel - from the first ad click through checkout recovery, post-purchase, and win-back - brands consistently see higher engagement and revenue per message than from email or SMS.

Key Findings

The figures below are aggregated across all 317 brands and reflect WhatsApp performance across the full customer lifecycle, from customer acquisition and checkout recovery through post-purchase engagement and win-back.

  • Average open rate across all WhatsApp flows: 87.91%, compared with an industry average of roughly 20–25% for e-commerce email.
  • Abandoned checkout recovery flow: 91.12% open rate, 33.84% recovered-checkout conversion, average ROI of 52.98X
  • Abandoned cart flow: 86.12% open rate, 22.71% conversion rate, 44.23X ROI
  • Post-purchase flow (order confirmation, shipping, review request, cross-sell): 91.93% open, 25.62% repeat-purchase rate within 60 days
  • Win-back flow: 28.57% of lapsed customers re-engaged, 27.22X ROI
  • Campaigns (promotional broadcasts): 76.11% open, 11.08X ROI per campaign on average
  • WhatsApp Ads: 31.7% lower cost per purchase than standard click-to-website ads.
  • Revenue share: WhatsApp accounts for an average of 12.21% of total online revenue for brands running all flows, versus 4.91% for brands running abandoned-checkout only.

Why the Numbers Differ From Email and SMS

Zefir attributes the gap to three structural properties of the channel.

First, WhatsApp captures a verified phone number and full customer details from the very first click on a WhatsApp ad, so a brand starts every relationship with a reachable, identified contact rather than an anonymous session.

Second, messages arrive in the same inbox customers use for friends and family, which drives open rates that email cannot match.

Third, because every flow - acquisition, checkout recovery, post-purchase, and win-back - runs in a single conversation thread, each message builds on the previous one instead of starting from zero.

"Most brands still treat WhatsApp as a notification channel. The data says it is a revenue channel, and for brands that run the full lifecycle on it, it is often the highest-ROI channel they have," said Renards Skutels, CEO of Zefir. "The half-billion-dollar milestone is not one brand with a big number. It is hundreds of brands seeing the same pattern: capture the contact at the first click, and every subsequent flow compounds on it."

How Zefir's Infrastructure Works

Zefir provides a done-for-you WhatsApp and SMS revenue infrastructure for e-commerce brands. As a Meta Business Partner, the company operates directly on the official WhatsApp Business Platform rather than through a third-party intermediary.

Its team designs, builds, and manages the full automation stack for each brand, including:

  • WhatsApp ads run natively in the platform, so acquisition and messaging share the same data
  • Abandoned checkout and abandoned cart recovery synced in real time with Shopify
  • Post-purchase flows - order and shipping updates, review requests, cross-sell and replenishment
  • Win-back and retention flows for lapsed customers
  • Segmented campaigns and broadcasts with two-way replies handled in one inbox
  • Full attribution so every dollar of WhatsApp revenue is visible inside the brand's existing reporting

The brand does not need an in-house messaging team; Zefir's onboarding and account management team handles setup, compliance with Meta messaging policy, template approvals, and ongoing optimization.

Methodology

  • Figures are drawn from 317 Shopify and e-commerce brands using Zefir between June of 2025 and July of 2026, covering millions of messages.
  • Revenue and ROI figures are attributed on a 48-hour window measured in Shopify order data. Repeat-purchase and re-engagement rates are behavioral metrics measured over a 60-day window and are reported separately from attributed revenue.
  • Open rates are calculated from WhatsApp Business Platform delivery and read receipts.
  • ROI is calculated as attributed revenue divided by total WhatsApp conversation and platform cost.
  • Conversion, recovery, and re-engagement rates are calculated as a percentage of customers who received the relevant message.

LG Uplus, Ecolab Korea team up to set AI data center cooling standards

As artificial intelligence (AI) servers pack more computing power into less space, the heat they generate is becoming a critical challenge for data centers, prompting LG Uplus and Ecolab Korea to develop standards for liquid cooling systems. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday at LG Uplus’ headquarters in Seoul's Yongsan District, to improve cooling system operations and establish procedures for managing coolant quality. The partnership combines LG Uplus’ expertise in building and operating AI data centers with Ecolab Korea’s water treatment and cooling fluid management technologies. The growing use of high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) has increased heat output in data centers, driving interest in liquid cooling, which can remove heat more efficiently than conventional air cooling. But coolant that deteriorates or equipment that is poorly maintained can undermine cooling performance and lead to hardware failures, making consistent monitoring and operating standards essential. LG Uplus will provide a large-scale liquid cooling test environment b

Bithumb, Mirae Asset, Daishin join growing list of cyberattack victims

Cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, asset manager Mirae Asset Global Investments and Daishin Securities have become the latest victims of cyberattacks sweeping Korea’s financial sector, industry officials and financial authorities said Wednesday. Daishin Securities said in a press release earlier in the day that personal and credit information belonging to 38,490 customers had been leaked. The brokerage said it detected signs of unauthorized access by a hacker on Oct. 17 to a server linked to online securities account openings for discretionary investment services. Bithumb discovered Tuesday that personal information had been leaked following unauthorized access to its internal mobile groupware system. It is examining the scope of the breach, including whether customer information was compromised. A hacking incident was also reported at Mirae Asset Global Investments, prompting financial authorities to investigate the extent of the damage and the circumstances of the breach. The latest incidents came after Mirae Asset Life Insurance detected unusual activity in some of its systems Sunday

SK hynix pledges to return $75 bil. to shareholders

SK hynix on Wednesday announced a 100 trillion won ($75 billion) shareholder return plan for this year, in order to address the mismatch between its sluggish share price and record-breaking earnings performance. During its third-quarter earnings call, the company said it plans to return 100 trillion won to shareholders, including at least 30 trillion won in cash dividends and more than 60 trillion won through share buybacks and cancellations. “We believe our shares are undervalued, as their current price does not fully reflect the profits and cash flow the company is generating," the company said. "Under these circumstances, we believe repurchasing and canceling our shares is an effective way to increase value per share." "We plan to continue repurchasing shares every quarter within our annual buyback plan," it added. "The board will determine the size of quarterly repurchases after considering share prices, valuations and cash flow." The plan includes the recently completed 40 trillion won share buyback program, with the repurchased shares scheduled to be canceled soon. At a board meet

Pioneer to outsider: Lucentblock CEO fights for survival in Korea's STO market

An unprecedented investment boom swept the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, fueled by abundant liquidity. Amid the frenzy, a new investment method known as "fractional investing" quickly gained traction. The emerging industry attracted a wave of entrepreneurs who helped shape its standards and practices. Among them was Lucentblock CEO Huh Se-young. His platform allowed investors to buy and sell fractional stakes in properties worth tens of billions of won. Since launching the business in 2018, he has attracted 500,000 customers and raised approximately 30 billion won ($22.65 million) through the platform. While many players exited the industry amid an investment slump and regulatory intervention, Huh stayed the course. He has seen three presidents and six finance ministers come and go. Huh navigated regulatory reviews and put investor protection safeguards in place under the government's sandbox program. He also persuaded financial institutions to adopt a structure in which trust companies would hold the underlying real estate assets and issue beneficiary certificates, while his sta

Phishers now want you to type the malware in yourself

For years, the anti-phishing playbook has been drilled into office workers like a fire-safety briefing: check the sender, hover before you click, never type your password into a page you reached from an email. The latest data from Check Point Research suggests attackers have read the same briefing. Increasingly, they are not after your password […] The post Phishers now want you to type the malware in yourself appeared first on e27.

Meta’s Muse lands in Singapore with a guest list Amazon never got

When Meta switched on Muse in the US last month, it let its new personal AI agent wander into Amazon.com unannounced. Twelve days later, Amazon showed it the door, complaining that the bot did not identify itself and that nobody had asked permission. In Singapore, Meta has brought the hosts along. The Fed decides today: Here are the 2 levels every Bitcoin trader should watch

The October 28 crypto session clearly shows how two forces can shape prices at the same time. Bitcoin gained 0.59 per cent to US$80,576.90 over 24 hours. The total crypto market cap rose 0.64 per cent to US$2.7 trillion. My view is that the headline numbers hide an important split. Bitcoin moved with traditional markets […] The post The Fed decides today: Here are the 2 levels every Bitcoin trader should watch appeared first on e27.

How we use AI to triage inbound B2B leads without blasting everyone the same way

We used to say we wanted more leads. That was true, but it was not the full problem. The harder problem was what happened after a lead came in. A form submission would land in the inbox.
