Rare earth magnets are critical in the development of strong supply chains that catalyze and support growth in the electric vehicle sector and other clean technologies
(PRUnderground) December 16th, 2022
Yaan Xinkuang, a Chinese mineral development company that focuses on critical metals and minerals having increasing demand in modern technologies and which is currently in the advanced stages of development, announced today the launch of a groundbreaking grant-funded project involving rare earths recycling for electrical vehicles (EVs).
The project will create an end-to-end supply chain for incorporating recycled rare earth magnets into electric vehicles, with recycled magnets being built into an ancillary electric motor to eventually support the development of a commercial ancillary motor suite.
The Hydrogen Dispensation of Magnet Scrap process, which extracts and demagnetizes neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) alloy powders from magnets embedded in scrap and redundant equipment, is critical to the project. Furthermore, the project includes a strong group of partners with complementary expertise and common features: ample experience in designing motors for clients; a key figure in the recycling of e – wastes, and working with a diverse range of businesses; a well-known volume automotive supplier with a global reach.
Meng Xiu, Chief Scientist and Principal Engineer of Yaan Xinkuang commented: “We are very excited about this innovative project and the possibility of scaling it up and commercializing the technology. We anticipate that rare-earth magnet recycling will play a critical role in the development of rigorous supply chains to catalyze and support growth in the electric vehicle sector and other clean technologies. Building on our platform in the circular economy and downstream markets is an important component of our strategy, which is supported by the long-term development of the Lushan Project.”
With the growing demand for sustainably sourced commodities, the initiative emphasizes the role that closed-loop chains can play in rare earths supply, in order to meet the environmental and economic demands of the expanding electric vehicle market. Yaan Xinkuang looks forward to continuing to support the development of the rare earth recycling industry as an early participant in this project.

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun marks six years at the helm on Wednesday, spearheading the automaker’s transformation into a global top-three auto player by sales and steering it into a key future mobility player focusing on robotics, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). The next phase of his leadership, however, will hinge on whether the group can turn its physical AI ambitions into profitable businesses. Chung is also tasked with addressing mounting pressure on its core automotive operations and labor relations. Since taking the top post in 2020, Chung has overseen Hyundai Motor and Kia’s rise to the world’s third-largest automotive group by vehicle sales, behind Toyota and Volkswagen. The group maintained that ranking for four consecutive years through 2025. Hyundai Motor and Kia’s combined annual sales also surpassed the symbolic mark of 300 trillion won ($223 billion) for the first time last year. The expansion reflects a strategy that combined electrification with a stronger focus on high-margin vehicles, including SUVs and Genesis luxury m
WASHINGTON — Hanwha Defense USA (HDUSA) and the U.S. Army have officially designated the American version of Hanwha's K9 self-propelled howitzer as the XM1776 Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC), the company has announced. According to HDUSA, a U.S. subsidiary of South Korean defense giant Hanwha Aerospace Co., the company held a naming ceremony for the XM1776 at the Association of the U.S. Army's (AUSA) 2026 Annual Meeting and Exposition on Tuesday in Washington. In August, HDUSA was selected to provide prototypes based on a wheeled variant of the best-selling K9 Thunder self-propelled artillery system for the MTC program, which aims to develop a highly mobile 155-millimeter artillery system to replace the Army's aging M777 towed howitzers. HDUSA also announced that the U.S. Army has ordered a total of nine prototype XM1776 systems, with an option for nine additional units. The XM1776 is a wheeled artillery system designed to support the U.S. Army's modernization efforts, including improvements in mobility and long-range precision fires capabilities. A POSCO Future M employee introduces an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered integrated materials management system during the company's AI Festival event in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, Tuesday. The company said Wednesday that the event was held to share employees' achievements in using AI, with the company planning to select outstanding projects and apply them to actual operations by the first half of next year. The battery materials firm is introducing AI agents and AI-based factories across its operations, targeting a 30 percent improvement in manufacturing productivity and a 50 percent reduction in product development time by the first half of 2028.
SK hynix projected Wednesday that the performance scale of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure will grow roughly 20-fold by 2030, driven by rapidly rising demand for AI inference. Ahn Hyun, head of development at the Korean chip giant, made the projection during his keynote speech at the 2026 Semiconductor Exhibition (SEDEX), which opened earlier in the day for a three-day run in southern Seoul. Ahn said the AI inference market is expanding simultaneously in three areas — task complexity, the amount of information processed at a time, and the volume of inference requests. The interaction of the three factors is rapidly increasing demand for AI infrastructure, he said. As demand for AI inference surges, memory is becoming increasingly important for storing and transferring large volumes of data. In particular, the growing capacity requirements of key-value (KV) caches, which store and reuse information previously processed by AI models, are requiring data to be distributed across different types of memory, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), dynamic random-access memory (DRAM)

Since joining Hanwha Corp.'s board in 2022, Kwon has chaired the internal transactions committee and been a member of the audit committee and environmental, social and corporate governance committee. Hanwha Corp. said Kwon is expected to lead the board's decision-making transparently based on expertise in law and capital markets. The group said defense electronics unit Hanwha Systems and shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean will also appoint independent directors as chairs of their respective boards. Bot

The services will be based on AgenticWorks, LG CNS’ agentic AI platform. They will also consider working together on autom
Netflix generated more than 1 trillion won ($730 million) in revenue in Korea last year, but sent 81 percent of that sum to its U.S. parent company, leaving its Korean operation with an operating profit of just 20.3 billion won, according to an analysis of its financial statements. Rep. Han Jun-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, analyzed the audit report of Netflix Services Korea and found that the company’s domestic revenue rose to 1.0542 trillion won in 2025, up from 631.7 billion won in 2021. The figures highlight a widening contrast between Netflix’s growth and the financial struggles of domestic streaming platforms, with Tving reporting an operating loss of 69.8 billion won last year and Wavve losing 12.2 billion won. Netflix also dominated paid streaming subscriptions, with a usage rate of 46.7 percent, compared with 13 percent for Tving, according to the Korea Media and Communications Commission’s 2025 survey on broadcast media use.
