The MidTown Bistro Shares the Story Behind Its Salt Lake Cafe in Kolkata

Sep 18, 2026

Founded by brothers Aman and Ayan Saha, The MidTown Bistro invites Salt Lake diners into a warm cafe with seating for 50 guests, where Continental cooking, Pan Asian flavours, artisanal coffee and genuine hospitality come together in one welcoming neighbourhood space.

Kolkata, India, September 18, 2026 -- In a busy part of Kolkata where office hours, college days, family plans and evening conversations often meet, The MidTown Bistro has created a comfortable place for people to slow down and enjoy a thoughtfully prepared meal.

Located in AK Block, Sector II, the Salt Lake cafe brings together Continental cooking, Pan Asian flavours, artisanal coffee, desserts and warm hospitality in a relaxed setting. The bistro seats 50 guests and offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with soft lighting, comfortable furniture and carefully chosen details that make the space feel inviting without being formal.

A Journey That Started at Home

The story began during the lockdown, when brothers Aman and Ayan Saha spent time experimenting in their kitchen and discovering a deeper interest in European cooking. What started as curiosity gradually became a serious passion.

In 2021, they opened their first modest cafe in Barasat. The response encouraged them to continue building a restaurant that felt personal, approachable and rooted in Kolkata. In 2025, that journey reached Salt Lake with a larger bistro spanning 1,200 square feet on 1st Avenue Road.

The Salt Lake location reflects the brothers’ original idea while giving it more room to grow. It is designed for a quiet coffee between meetings, a weekday lunch, a family dinner, a date, a birthday or an unhurried evening with friends.

Why It Is Called Midtown

People sometimes ask why the restaurant is called Midtown when it is not located at the precise centre of Kolkata.

For the founders, Midtown is not a geographical coordinate. It represents a meeting point in everyday life. It is where students, professionals, families, artists and friends can cross paths, share a table and feel at ease.

The idea is simple. Wherever someone is coming from, and wherever they are going next, the bistro can become the middle of their day. It is a pause filled with comfort, conversation and food worth remembering.

“We have always been foodies. Now we get to share that love with Kolkata every single day,” said Ayan Saha, one of the founders.

A Menu Made for Different Moods

The menu moves comfortably between familiar Continental favourites and lively Pan Asian flavours. Guests can choose from pasta, burgers, grilled chicken, seafood, steaks, sizzlers, vegetarian mains, coffee and desserts.

Popular choices include Chicken Lasagne, Spaghetti Bolognese, Beer Batter Prawn, Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce, Chicken Steak, the Fyre Burger and Strawberry Cheesecake. Vegetarian diners can explore dishes such as Veg Stroganoff, Veg Au Gratin, Paneer Sizzler and Paneer Steak.

The coffee selection includes cappuccino, cafe latte, cafe mocha, espresso and cold frappes. This allows the bistro to work just as naturally for an afternoon coffee as it does for a complete lunch or dinner.

A Neighbourhood Space With Its Own Personality

The team wants the experience to feel welcoming from the moment a guest enters. The aim is not simply to serve a long menu. It is to create the kind of place people remember when they want to meet someone, celebrate something or take a quiet break from a crowded day.

The sustainable furnishings, signature relief wall, warm lighting and mixture of indoor and outdoor seating give the Salt Lake bistro a distinctive personality. The atmosphere is polished, but it remains comfortable enough for regular visits.

The MidTown Bistro is open every day from 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

Guests can view the menu, explore the Salt Lake cafe, reserve a table, watch a video of the restaurant or use Google Maps directions.

Doosan Corp. bets $700 mil. on chip substrate material biz

Doosan Corp., the holding company of Doosan Group which also operates an electromaterials business, will invest 970 billion won ($702.6 million) to expand its production capacity for copper clad laminates (CCLs), a key material for advanced semiconductor substrates. Doosan Corp. said in a regulatory filing Thursday that its board approved investment to expand the domestic and overseas production capacity of its electromaterials business unit. Under the plan, the company will invest 970 billion won by Dec. 31 next year to expand its production capacity in Korea and overseas. The investment is the largest in Doosan Corp.’s history and accounts for about 8 percent of its equity capital. KT joins state project to build AI-driven 'dark factory' solutions

KT said Thursday it has joined a government-led research project to develop design and construction solutions for "dark factories" — fully automated, unmanned plants that run around the clock using artificial intelligence (AI) across every stage of production. The project falls under a Ministry of Science and ICT initiative to build a research and development ecosystem for a software platform based on collaborative intelligence and physical AI. It aims to build a dark factory near Jeonbuk Innovation City in North Jeolla Province. Besides KT, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, LG Energy Solution, Harim Foods, Shinsung E&G and the Korea Productivity Center are taking part as joint research institutions. KT will develop a system built on modular edge AI data center infrastructure — compact, distributed AI data centers pre-assembled on factory floors — to generate and verify Sim-Ready synthetic data, or digital data usable in virtual simulation environments, along with an integrated environment for operating AI agents. Through the research, KT aims to resolve error
