Dr. Carl Holm explains Gum Disease also known as Periodontal Disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gum tissue and bone supporting the teeth, according to the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss. Research has also shown that periodontal disease is associated with other chronic inflammatory diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Because gum disease is usually painless and develops slowly, a person may not be aware that the infection exists. Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria (germs) that constantly forms on the teeth. These bacteria create toxins that can eventually damage the gums and the bone surrounding the teeth.

The following conditions may indicate the presence of gum disease, and a dentist or dental specialist called a periodontist should be consulted. If your gums bleed when brushing teeth, are red, swollen or tender or have pulled away from the teeth this could be a sign of gum disease. Also if one of the following conditions is present: Bad breath that doesn’t go away, pus between teeth and gums, loosing or loss of teeth or a change in the way the teeth fit together when biting or a change in the fit of partial dentures

Remember that pain usually is not present in the early stages of gum disease.

Why not start the new year off right with a routine dental check up. Dr. Carl Holm a Gentle Family Dentist and his staff at Carl Holm Gentle Family Dentistry Pocatello (Carl B Holm DDS,PC) are available to serve you for all your dental needs.

What changed when I stopped sending newsletters manually

Before I used Mailchimp, my monthly newsletter was one of those tasks I kept postponing. Not because it was complicated. Because it was annoying. I was running a small business, which meant the newsletter was always competing with more urgent things. Customer messages, fulfilment, invoices, product updates, random admin. By the time I got to […] The post What changed when I stopped sending newsletters manually appeared first on e27.

Carro turns Singapore car loans into a US$350M funding pipeline in a regional first

In Singapore, a car is less a vehicle than a ten-year licence wrapped in steel. Carro now wants institutional money to treat that licence as collateral. The Singapore-headquartered automotive marketplace has set up a S$450 million (about US$350 million) asset-backed securitisation facility backed by Singapore car loan receivables. In a statement on Thursday, Carro called […] The post Carro turns Singapore car loans into a US$350M funding pipeline in a regional first appeared first on e27.

The working capital trap: Lessons from Indonesia’s first D2C generation

Indonesia’s D2C and inventory-heavy startup sector looks different in 2026 than it did before 2022. The cohort of platforms that scaled between 2018 and 2021 (Fabelio in furniture, several in F&B, fashion, and household goods) encountered a category of operational risk that the original venture playbook tended to underestimate. Some platforms have stabilised. Several have […] The post The working capital trap: Lessons from Indonesia’s first D2C generation appeared first on e27.

China's humanoids go job hunting amid Korea's bets on physical AI

Chinese humanoid robot makers are accelerating efforts to gain a foothold in Korea, moving beyond dance performances and showroom displays to factory trials and other commercial applications as Seoul beefs up investment in physical artificial intelligence (AI). A string of Chinese robotics companies have flexed their muscles or announced projects in the country this year, including Hong Kong-listed Ubtech, startup Anyverse Dynamics, Shanghai-based Agibot and leading robot maker Unitree. “China’s new generation of robot companies has global DNA and naturally looks overseas, and Korea is one of the most important markets in Asia-Pacific,” said Ethan Qi, an associate director covering robotics at Counterpoint Research. The absence of locally built humanoids available at scale has created an opening for Chinese suppliers, he added. Early footprint Representatives of Galaxy Robot Park, a robot-themed entertainment venue in Seoul, agreed to buy Ubtech’s lifelike U1 model after attending its debut in Shenzhen in June, according to Sean Qin, overseas head of the company's commercial robo

The achievements highlight the progress of a new generation of pianists who have received sustained support from the foundation, as they pursue international careers. Shin continued his strong performance on the international competition circuit, following a second-place finish at the Dublin International Piano Competition and a special prize at the Pancho Vladigerov International Piano Competition, both held in 2025.
