A guide from The León Law Firm, P.C. explains how texting is proven after a Texas car crash, using phone records, crash reports, vehicle data and witnesses, and why an injury claim can move forward under the state’s texting ban even without a ticket.
Sugar Land, United States, October 27, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- SUGAR LAND, Texas — Drivers who cause a crash while texting rarely admit it. A guide from The León Law Firm, P.C. explains how texting is usually proven after a Texas car crash, what the state’s texting ban says and why the exact timing of phone activity often decides the case. The guide is available at https://theleonlawfirm.com/driving-while-texting/
Distraction remains a serious problem on Texas roads. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, distracted driving caused 86,384 crashes in Texas in 2025. More than 2,437 people were seriously injured, and 299 people died. TxDOT lists texting, talking and glancing at a cell phone among the distractions behind those crashes.
Texas has banned texting behind the wheel statewide since September 1, 2017. Under Texas Transportation Code § 545.4251, a driver commits an offense by using a portable wireless communication device to read, write or send an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle unless the vehicle is stopped. The law lists several defenses, including hands-free use, GPS navigation and calling for emergency help. A first offense carries a fine of $25 to $99. If the driver causes the death or serious bodily injury of another person, the offense becomes a Class A misdemeanor.
The guide stresses that a traffic ticket and an injury claim are separate matters. The ticket is between the driver and the state. The injury claim is about who pays for medical bills, lost income and other losses, and it can move forward whether or not police issued a citation.
Proof usually comes from records, lined up against the exact moment of impact. The guide describes five common sources of evidence:
Phone and carrier records, which show when messages and data were sent and received and can be requested during a lawsuit.
The phone itself, which a forensic review can examine for activity at specific times.
The crash timeline, built from the CR-3 crash report, 911 call records and the vehicle’s event data recorder, which captures speed and braking before impact.
Witnesses and video, including other drivers, passengers and nearby cameras.
Statements the driver made at the scene, to police or to an insurance adjuster.
Timing matters most. A message sent ten minutes before a crash tells a different story than one sent seconds before impact. In the guide, founding attorney Carlos A. León points out that phones are often replaced and data can be deleted, so a written request to preserve evidence should go out early. Deadlines also apply. Most Texas injury lawsuits must be filed within two years of the crash, and an injured person’s recovery is reduced by any share of fault assigned to them under the state’s proportionate responsibility rules.

Open-weight models, China-US tensions, Taiwan – just a few of the more than dozen references to China-related risks cited in Anthropic’s much-anticipated listing prospectus, which was finally released on Monday after months of speculation. Mostly concentrated within the 93-page “risk factors” section of the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the disclosures reveal how the Silicon Valley start-up assesses the commercial threats posed by China and its artificial intelligence...
Thirteen years after venture capitalist Aileen Lee coined the term, the unicorn has stopped being mythical. There are now 1,879 privately held companies valued at US$1 billion or more, according to a new analysis by BestBrokers, which drew on data from Crunchbase, PitchBook and TechCrunch. The headline number hides a narrower story. Capital in 2026 […] The post Anthropic, DeepSeek and drones: 10 takeaways from the 2026 unicorn boom appeared first on e27.
Every enterprise software vendor now has an AI agent story. Chinese artificial intelligence start-up Moonshot AI, developer of the popular Kimi series, apologised on Monday for limiting customers’ use of its latest model in a botched roll-out that has also invited scrutiny over its promotional practices and cybersecurity measures. “We’re sorry for the rate limits and unnecessary quota consumption on the K3.1 Pro subscription plan,” Moonshot said in a post on social media. In a separate Chinese-language notice, it said it took responsibility for the...
Bukalapak has kept its profit streak alive, though only just. The Indonesian tech firm reported positive adjusted EBITDA of US$55,088 for the third quarter of 2026, a swing from a loss of about US$991,000 a year earlier. Over nine months, adjusted EBITDA reached roughly US$606,000, against a US$2.9 million loss in the same period of 2025. The crypto market is holding its breath. Bitcoin has spent the morning oscillating in a narrow band between US$79,300 and US$80,000. This tight range reflects broader paralysis across digital assets ahead of the United States Federal Reserve’s final rate decision on 28 October 2026. This is not a quiet consolidation. It is a standoff between […] The post 3 scenarios for October 28: Which one breaks Bitcoin’s US$80,000 resistance appeared first on e27.
I read a lot of contributor articles, and the ones that get published versus held back are rarely separated by writing talent. It’s usually the small things: an idea that’s too broad, a claim with no source, a company name that appears one time too many. Almost all of it is fixable before you hit […] The post The e27 Contributor Programme: Writing an article that gets published — Part 1 appeared first on e27.
For years, the logic of startup building was closely associated with ownership. A company developed its own technology, recruited its own specialised teams, accumulated proprietary tools and built infrastructure that competitors would struggle to reproduce. The more difficult those capabilities were to access elsewhere, the more credible the competitive advantage appeared. In software especially, technological […] The post The AI era is forcing startups to rethink what they should own appeared first on e27.

Malaysia’s durian industry ought to be one of the country’s great economic success stories. Chinese demand soared. Musang King became an internationally recognised premium product.
