DYOPATH Explains Five Signs a Company Is Ready for a vCISO

Oct 27, 2026

A new DYOPATH post lists five signs a company may be ready for a vCISO, from compliance pressure without an owner to board questions about accountability, and compares fractional and full-time costs.

Oakbrook Terrace, United States, October 27, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- DYOPATH has published a post (https://dyopath.com/signs-ready-for-a-vciso/) on how to tell when a company is ready for a vCISO, a fractional, contracted security executive. The post says most companies do not decide one day that they need a Chief Information Security Officer. It usually happens in reverse. A customer’s security questionnaire gets harder to answer, or a cyber insurance renewal raises questions that nobody in the company can answer with confidence.

The post lists five signs. The first is compliance piling up with nobody owning the program, such as SOC 2, HIPAA, insurance renewals, and client vendor requirements all arriving at once. The second is security decisions being made by whoever is available, with no one accountable for them. The third is a near-miss, a failed audit, or a lost deal. The fourth is a company large enough to carry real risk but not large enough to justify a full-time executive salary. The fifth is a board member, investor, customer, or insurance underwriter asking who owns security, with no clean answer.

The post also compares costs. It says a full-time CISO’s total compensation typically runs from $250,000 to $400,000 or more a year at mid-market companies, before benefits and the team the role usually needs. Recruiting for the role can take three to six months, according to the post. Fractional engagements are priced by scope and hours, it says, and mid-market retainers generally land between roughly $2,000 and $15,000 a month. A vCISO can typically start within one to two weeks. These figures are the post’s own estimates of typical market ranges.

A vCISO does not replace day-to-day IT work, the post says. It puts one accountable person over risk decisions that would otherwise be made by default. The right choice, in the post’s view, is the one matched to where the company is now. Some organizations do eventually need a full-time hire, just later than they expect.

The post is written for mid-market companies with real exposure, such as customer data, compliance obligations, and heavy reliance on IT, but a limited budget for a full-time executive. It notes that a heavily regulated healthcare or financial services company may need more hours and a different scope than a smaller manufacturer. 3 scenarios for October 28: Which one breaks Bitcoin’s US$80,000 resistance

The crypto market is holding its breath. Bitcoin has spent the morning oscillating in a narrow band between US$79,300 and US$80,000. This tight range reflects broader paralysis across digital assets ahead of the United States Federal Reserve’s final rate decision on 28 October 2026. This is not a quiet consolidation. It is a standoff between […] The post 3 scenarios for October 28: Which one breaks Bitcoin’s US$80,000 resistance appeared first on e27.

The e27 Contributor Programme: Writing an article that gets published — Part 1

I read a lot of contributor articles, and the ones that get published versus held back are rarely separated by writing talent. It’s usually the small things: an idea that’s too broad, a claim with no source, a company name that appears one time too many. Almost all of it is fixable before you hit […] The post The e27 Contributor Programme: Writing an article that gets published — Part 1 appeared first on e27.

The AI era is forcing startups to rethink what they should own

For years, the logic of startup building was closely associated with ownership. A company developed its own technology, recruited its own specialised teams, accumulated proprietary tools and built infrastructure that competitors would struggle to reproduce. The more difficult those capabilities were to access elsewhere, the more credible the competitive advantage appeared. In software especially, technological […] The post The AI era is forcing startups to rethink what they should own appeared first on e27.

ZTE up 7% after AI pivot, computing surge drive massive increase in third-quarter profit

Shares in ZTE rose more than 7 per cent in Hong Kong on Tuesday after the Chinese telecommunications equipment maker posted a nearly fivefold jump in third-quarter profit, driven by rapid expansion in its computing infrastructure and overseas operations.
