ContrastConnect has published a guide on California AB 460, the state law that took effect January 1, 2026, redefining direct supervision standards for contrast procedures at imaging centers.

Las Vegas, United States, September 4, 2026 /PressCable/ -- Assembly Bill 460 (AB 460) took effect in California on January 1, 2026, revising the state's definition of direct supervision to recognize real-time audio and video communication as a legitimate method of physician oversight for contrast procedures. ContrastConnect's guide covers the requirements and operational implications of the updated framework.

Before AB 460, imaging centers with multiple locations often struggled to maintain consistent radiologist coverage. Physicians were required to be physically present at each facility during contrast procedures, creating staffing bottlenecks and limiting appointment availability. According to ContrastConnect, rural and underserved communities were disproportionately affected, with patients in some areas facing longer travel distances and reduced access to timely contrast-enhanced imaging.
AB 460 addresses these issues by aligning California's supervision requirements with federal CMS standards and permitting virtual oversight through real-time, two-way audio and high-definition video. Under the updated rules, supervising physicians must have immediate access to patient records and current imaging studies. Facilities are also expected to maintain documented contingency plans for technology failures, including procedures for arranging in-person supervision if a virtual connection is interrupted.
Patient safety remains central to the updated framework. Centers using virtual supervision must ensure at least one qualified staff member is physically present and trained to recognize and manage contrast reactions, with emergency medications and equipment readily accessible at all times.
For imaging centers, the new framework enables more flexible scheduling and makes it easier to extend operating hours without requiring a radiologist to be physically present for every contrast procedure. Facilities may offer more appointment slots and manage radiologist resources more efficiently across multiple sites. ContrastConnect notes that the virtual supervision model can be scaled when implemented with the appropriate protocols and technology infrastructure.
Radiologists also benefit, as the virtual model allows them to supervise procedures across multiple facilities without traveling to each site. The guide notes that rural centers — where recruiting full-time onsite radiologists has historically been difficult — may use this framework to broaden access to contrast-enhanced imaging within their communities.
To support imaging groups adopting virtual supervision under AB 460, ContrastConnect offers assistance with HIPAA-compliant technology infrastructure, technologist training, compliance documentation, and physician coverage.

Driving along the wide boulevards of Astana during a recent trip to the Kazakh capital, signs of China’s growing commercial footprint were everywhere. Chinese cars were becoming a common sight on the streets here, as brands from BYD to Changan made aggressive inroads in a market once dominated by South Korea’s Hyundai and Kia, said the driver who picked me up from the airport in a gleaming Changan electric vehicle. But it was not the rise of Chinese tech that had brought me to this energy-rich...

It is generally considered less risky for companies to first establish a robust consumer base in the country where they are based, giving them a comfort zone for operations like marketing, administration and customer service. Expanding into overseas markets would be a logical next step. Major Korean firms almost always follow this approach, building operational know-how and a strong domestic following before venturing into uncharted territories. Global expansion has become increasingly encouraging for Korean beauty and food firms thanks to their growing presence on the global stage. According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Korean beauty exports hit a record $11.4 billion in 2025, up 24.5 percent from 2021. Korean food exports also reached a record in 2025 at $10.4 billion, up 21.9 percent over the same period, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The booming global trade in these industries has encouraged some small and medium-sized Korean companies to aim high from the outset, targeting international consumers rather than the domestic market.
