ACondor Explains The 45 To 21 DTE Cycle Behind Its Iron Condor Engine

Oct 17, 2026

ACondor LLC explains why iron condor traders enter around 45 days to expiration and manage at 21, how theta and gamma trade places over the life of a short premium trade, and how its software for tastytrade accounts encodes that cycle as fixed rules.

Las Cruces, United States, October 17, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- Iron condor traders who follow the tastytrade school of premium selling tend to repeat the same two numbers: enter around 45 days to expiration, manage at 21. ACondor LLC, the company behind the ACondor options trading software for tastytrade accounts, has published an explanation of where those numbers come from and how its mechanical engine applies them without a trader watching the clock. The full rule set is documented at https://acondor.com/how-it-works

According to the company, the 45 to 21 cycle is a statement about two option Greeks that move in opposite directions as expiration approaches. Theta measures how much value an option loses each day from the passage of time. Gamma measures how fast an option's delta, its sensitivity to the underlying price, changes when the stock moves. Far from expiration, both are small: a short condor collects little decay per day and barely reacts to a normal move in the stock. Close to expiration, both are large: decay is fastest in the final weeks, but a short strike near the money can swing from a comfortable position to a tested one on a single ordinary session.

The entry window exists because of the first half of that curve. An iron condor opened 30 to 65 days out, on a standard monthly expiration, collects enough credit to be worth the four commissions and the buying power it ties up, while leaving room for the underlying to wander and come back. A condor opened with ten days left pays more per day but offers no time to be wrong. ACondor's mechanical engine scans for entries inside the 30 to 65 day band and prefers monthly expirations for their open interest and tighter quotes. The center of that band is about 45 days, which is where the convention comes from.

The 21 day rule exists because of the second half of the curve. Somewhere around three weeks out, the daily decay still looks attractive on paper, but gamma has grown to the point where the remaining credit no longer compensates for how quickly a short strike can be tested. Holding past that point also walks the position toward expiration-week hazards: pin risk at a strike, early assignment on a short that has gone in the money, and the thin, wide markets of a chain in its final days. ACondor treats 21 days as a backstop. If a condor has not already been closed, the software closes it at 21 days to expiration regardless of where it stands.

Most positions never reach the backstop. The engine's first exit rule is the 50 percent rule: when the condor can be bought back for half the credit received, it is closed and the capital is released for the next entry. In a typical cycle that happens somewhere in the middle of the trade's life, well before the 21 day mark. The sequence the software applies on every cycle is fixed and documented: an assignment cleanup if a stock leg has appeared, a news gate that can close a position on high-confidence opposing headlines, the 50 percent rule, delta defense on a tested short strike, and finally the 21 day backstop.

The company notes that 21 days is also where a tested condor gets a decision rather than a reflex. With more than 21 days left and no abnormal move, a short strike that has reached 0.45 delta is defended, rolled further out of the money for a credit or simply held, because time and credit are what make a tested defined-risk position recoverable. Once the calendar reaches 21 days, a tested side can be rolled out to the next monthly cycle, around 45 days again, only when the roll pays a net credit after the broker's own fee calculation. A roll that does not pay is refused and the position is closed instead. The software never chases a losing side with a debit roll.

Every one of these thresholds is a number in the configuration, not a judgment made at the screen, and the position table shows days to expiration and the active rule for each open trade. The company's position is that the value of a 45 to 21 cycle lies less in any single trade than in being applied the same way every time, which is what a human trader with a day job struggles to do and what software does by default.

ACondor is software, not investment advice. Nothing here is a guarantee of any trading result, and options trading carries substantial risk of loss. A rule that closes at 21 days limits exposure to the final weeks of a contract; it does not prevent losses before then.

'AI artists' perform improvised music at Jarasum Jazz Festival

Artificial intelligence (AI) models developed by a research team led by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) professor Nam Ju-han made their debut at one of Korea’s leading jazz festivals, performing improvised jazz alongside human artists. According to the university Friday, the team showcased human-AI music collaboration technology that analyzes the flow of human performances in real time, allowing AI to take over performances or generate improvised accompaniment during the 23rd Jarasum Jazz Festival, held in Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, from Oct. 9 to 11. A total of 12 human jazz artists participated in the event, collaborating with AI in 26 pieces across 12 performances. The technology is different from existing music AI services as it enables collaboration with human musicians in jazz, a genre characterized by improvisation. Jazz musicians often change the tempo or create new melodies based on how they feel in the moment. Because the same piece can be performed differently each time, musicians must listen to one another and adjust their playing accordi

Why do some Samsung employees cheer company's stock plunge?

Some Samsung Electronics employees have drawn criticism from online users after appearing to welcome a nearly 9 percent plunge in their company's share price on an anonymous workplace community. Posts written by Samsung Electronics employees on the company's board on Blind, an anonymous community for office workers, spread across online communities and social media Thursday. Blind requires users to verify their employment through their company email addresses, and displays the name of their employer alongside their usernames. According to the Korea Exchange, Samsung Electronics closed Thursday's regular trading at 210,000 won ($147), down 9.48 percent, or 22,000 won, from the previous session. One person believed to be a Samsung Electronics employee posted on Blind under the title, "Please let the stock plunge to 100,000 won." Another employee wrote a post titled, "Isn't a falling stock price actually better for Samsung Electronics employees?" The employee said, "From the Device Solutions (DS) division's perspective, a higher stock price only increases the risk associated with OPI2," ref

Michael Jordan's Steak House named Korea's best hotel restaurant

Michael Jordan’s Steak House, the only location of the U.S. restaurant brand outside the United States, has been named “Korea’s Best Hotel Restaurant 2026” at the World Culinary Awards. INSPIRE Entertainment Resort in Incheon, which houses the restaurant, said Friday that the steakhouse received the award at a ceremony held Wednesday in Jamaica. The awards recognize outstanding restaurants and culinary destinations through votes cast by industry professionals, experts and consumers. The event is a sister event of the World Travel Awards, described as the “Oscars of the travel industry.” The restaurant opened in Incheon in 2023 as the brand’s first and only location outside the U.S., bringing a selection of steaks that had proved popular in its home market. Cornerstone Restaurant Group oversees the brand in partnership with basketball legend Michael Jordan, with two U.S. locations in Chicago and Connecticut. The Incheon restaurant also received a Best of Award of Excellence in June from Wine Spectator, a U.S. wine publication, as part of its annual Restaurant Awards. “This

Chaevi wins all 4 government EV charging subsidy categories

Electric vehicle (EV) charging operator Chaevi has achieved a rare clean sweep in this year's government EV charging facility subsidy program, securing qualifications across all four categories in both network operation and hardware manufacturing. The company was selected as an operator and manufacturer of fast, medium-speed and slow charging facilities under a program overseen by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. The selection marks Chaevi’s ninth consecutive year as a designated charging facility operator and its first selection in newly introduced manufacturer categories, according to the company. The four categories cover operators of fast and medium-speed chargers, operators of slow chargers, manufacturers of fast and medium-speed chargers, and manufacturers of slow chargers, allowing Chaevi to participate in the government’s subsidy program through 2027. The government revised its evaluation system this year to assess operators and manufacturers separately, with manufacturers facing additional scrutiny of technological development, product quality and charging pe

Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra, 2 other products named to TIME's Best Inventions of 2026

Samsung Electronics said Friday that three of its products have been named to TIME magazine’s list of The Best Inventions of 2026. The U.S. weekly news magazine announced the list Thursday (local time). It picked the Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone in the Consumer Electronics category, the Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator in Household and the Odyssey G8 gaming monitor in Entertainment & Gaming. TIME compiles the list each year from nominations by its editors and correspondents around the world. It rates new products and ideas on originality, efficacy, ambition and impact. The magazine called the Galaxy S26 Ultra “a privacy-focused smartphone,” citing its Privacy Display. The feature effectively blocks people from viewing the screen from the side. Users can choose when it turns on or apply it only to certain content, such as pop-up notifications. TIME said this makes it more flexible than conventional privacy screen protectors. The phone is the top model in the Galaxy S26 series, which was released in March. It has a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera and artificial intelligence (AI) fea
