2026 China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival: Press Conference Held in Beijing

Oct 21, 2026

Beijing, China, October 21, 2026 -- On October 19, a press conference for the 2026 China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival was held in Beijing. Attendees included Deng Guanghui, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice Chairman of the China Film Association; Guo Guoyun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and Head of its Publicity Department; and Huang Xiaoming and Huo Tingxiao, Vice Chairmen of the China Film Association. They were joined by officials from the Film Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, relevant departments of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the China Film Association, and several Beijing-based film organizations, alongside young filmmaker representatives, officials from the Publicity Department of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee, the Xiamen Municipal Government, and relevant municipal departments, as well as festival partners and media representatives, about 200 people attended in total.

The conference announced that the 2026 China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival will run from November 6 to 10 in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The festival will thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, respond to evolving conditions in the film industry, and center on the theme of "building film culture." Through its awards and programming practices, it aims to nurture artistic creation, foster academic exchange, stimulate the market, serve the public, and empower the city, unleashing the full potential of film culture to serve as dual drivers alongside the film economy. Major events will include large-scale gatherings such as the festival opening ceremony, the nominees' recognition ceremony, and the award ceremony and closing ceremony; film industry symposiums; screenings including the Golden Rooster Chinese-Language Film Section and the Golden Rooster International Film Section; forums and academic events such as the Golden Rooster Film Forum and the Dialogue of International Film Festival Directors; programs supporting film creation including the Golden Rooster Films Project Market and the Golden Rooster Cross-Strait, Hong Kong & Macao Youth Short Film Season; cross-Strait film and cultural exchanges such as the Taiwan Film Promotion Conference and the Night of Light and Shadow Across the Strait; public-benefit programming including filmmakers' community outreach and the Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Life Season; as well as a diverse slate of supporting activities.

The conference also announced Huang Xiaoming as the Golden Rooster International Communication Ambassador for the 2026 China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival and Huang Xiyan as its Golden Rooster Cross-Strait Film Ambassador. In addition, a partnership signing ceremony was held, where Xiamen Film Festival Co., Ltd. signed agreements with corporate partners including Xiamen ITG Holding Group Co., Ltd., Huawei Device Co., Ltd., Seres Group Co., Ltd., Magnolia Evergreen Group, Xiamen Changelight Co., Ltd., Beijing Damai, and Xiamen Beimingcui Biotechnology Co., Ltd. to jointly support the successful staging of this year's festival.

According to the organizers, programming for the festival this year is structured across four key dimensions:

First, returning to filmmaking's original aspiration and building cultural consensus. This year's festival will focus on the high-quality development of Chinese cinema, hosting film industry symposiums to encourage innovation and creativity in both film art and the industry. Major events will offer a comprehensive review of the year's filmmaking achievements, highlighting filmmakers' commitment to engaging with contemporary life through their work and reflecting Chinese cinema's cultural awareness in capturing the evolution of the times, the progress of China, and the voices of the people. Through curated discussions across forums and film screenings, the festival will systematically examine the year's cinematic social practice and cultural impact, showcase the diverse styles of Chinese-language filmmaking, particularly work by young filmmakers, and foster shared public understanding of film culture.

Second, embracing innovation and transformation to drive industry rejuvenation. With a focus on developing young talent, the Golden Rooster Films Project Market will adopt the theme of "breaking new ground and raising the bar," integrating cutting-edge resources with industry backing to strengthen support across the full process, from initial ideas to distribution and promotion. The festival will advance the Golden Rooster Cross-Strait, Hong Kong & Macao Youth Short Film Season, using the short-film format to explore artistic innovation, foster cultural resonance, and discover fresh creative voices for Chinese-language cinema. The festival will also upgrade its academic offerings, with the Golden Rooster Awards · Gulangyu Forum as a centerpiece, alongside annual addresses, the academic forum, the screenwriters, directors and actors forum, and thematic sessions on film and urban civilization. These activities will bring diverse perspectives to innovation in film theory and provide intellectual and cultural support for the high-quality development of Chinese cinema. The festival will also embrace change in the digital era, focusing on emerging forms such as smartphone filmmaking and virtual reality films, and using technological innovation to empower the building of a modern film culture.

Third, bridging Chinese and international cinema and deepening mutual learning among civilizations. The festival will respond to global developments in cinema and take an active role in cultural communication. With Chinese cinema closely intertwined with global filmmaking, it will host the Dialogue of International Film Festival Directors for the first time, bringing together leaders of prominent film festivals worldwide and film experts and scholars from China and abroad. The event will provide a high-level platform for exchanging visits between filmmakers, sharing films, and communicating ideas, presenting China's approach to building film culture and contributing Chinese wisdom to the prosperity of world cinema. Through events like the Golden Rooster International Film Section and the Golden Rooster Overseas Film Section, the festival will transcend regional and cultural boundaries to deepen international dialogue through cinema. Meanwhile, the Golden Rooster Film Market will connect key industry resources through promotional presentations, the Golden Rooster Film Academy, roundtable discussions, the AI Film Section, business meetings, and networking to foster industry exchange and mutual learning among civilizations. Additionally, the Taiwan Film Promotion Conference and the Night of Light and Shadow Across the Strait will promote cross-strait film and cultural exchanges and explore new paths toward integrated development of the film industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Fourth, mutually empowering the festival and the city while fostering cultural and economic development. Under the theme "Light and Shadow in the Tide," the public benefit initiatives will bring filmmakers into the places where Xiamen residents live and work, delivering outstanding film culture directly to local communities. The Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Life Season will create urban cultural spaces, including outdoor cinemas and lifestyle markets, to make film culture part of everyday life and cultivate a citywide appreciation of cinema. Furthermore, the festival will launch the "Film · Xiamen" series to enhance the year-round, city-wide "Golden Rooster" brand. By utilizing ticket-stub tie-ins with commercial districts to boost spending, it aims to drive mutual growth between film culture and the film economy, keeping cultural progress in step with material development.

Agentic AI is Singapore’s hottest job skill, and that should worry the people it replaces

Somewhere in Singapore this week, a recruiter is probably rewriting a job ad that once asked for “advanced Excel skills” so that it now asks for “hands-on experience with agentic AI workflows”. Multiply that by a few thousand listings and you arrive at the headline figure in Jobstreet by SEEK’s new AI Gauge. AI won’t tidy your business. It just moves the mess faster

I build AI tools for marketers, and run an AI marketing software firm in Singapore, so I spend a lot of time hearing about AI adoption. A recent talk by Robert Lai, founder of performance agency Kaliber, stuck with me because it opened with an uncomfortable claim: most of the AI work in the room […] The post AI won’t tidy your business. How I use AI to support public relations

After narrowly losing yet another pitch earlier this year, I added up the time I had spent preparing proposals: 300 hours in four months. I wanted to know whether we were pursuing the right business. Using Gemini and a script in Google Docs, I compared five years of proposals with our client invoicing records. One […] The post How I use AI to support public relations  appeared first on e27.

I still work 40 hours a week. AI turns it into 120

I teach people how to use AI for a living. So you would expect me to tell you it does everything. It doesn’t. What it does is take a huge amount of the grind out of my week, as long as I stay in the loop. Most of what I have learned came from AI […] The post I still work 40 hours a week. Malaysia’s US$110M startup bet has a matching problem, investors warn

Malaysia has found the money for its startups again. The harder part, investors say, is finding everything that is supposed to come with it. In his Budget 2027 speech on 9 October, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Khazanah’s Jelawang Capital and KWAP’s Dana Perintis would invest MYR450 million (US$110.4 million) in startups. Google may already be showing us its route to AGI

In 2015, Demis Hassabis looked back at a decision he had made more than a decade earlier. By 2004 he was already thinking about what would eventually become DeepMind, but concluded that the technology was not ready. As he later put it, “we still didn’t have enough of the components.” Deep learning had not yet […] The post Google may already be showing us its route to AGI appeared first on e27.

Why Anthropic has a major China problem ahead of its blockbuster IPO

The growing popularity of Chinese artificial intelligence models has emerged as a key risk factor for Anthropic ahead of its blockbuster initial public offering, according to US research firm Hedgeye Risk Management. “It’s all about Chinese competition when analysing Anthropic,” said Felix Wang, managing director and global tech sector head at Hedgeye. “Many of my clients are asking the same question.” The assessment comes as Anthropic faces renewed investor jitters over whether its massive AI...
